The COVID-19 pandemic provided the opportunity for unprecedented access to national electronic health record data for research in secure data environments. At the same time, there has a been a push to develop regional secure data environments that contain the granular information collected more locally. Jonathan Sterne, Rachel Denholm and Venexia Walker co-lead a team of researchers at the University of Bristol who have worked within these environments. During this seminar, Rachel and Venexia will share their learnings and future directions for research using these resources.

HDR UK South-West is one of the nine regional networks within Health Data Research UK (HDR UK), the UK’s national institute for health data research. Our experts lead the development and delivery of regional and national health data research infrastructure development for research (including national and sub-national secure data environments and the UK Longitudinal Linkage Collaboration); they provide research leadership underpinning the delivery of HDR UK driver programmes and deliver regional training and capacity building initiatives. The regional network is led by Co-Directors Rachel Denholm and Jonathan Sterne in collaboration with a wider team from across the South West.
