HDR UK is in the enviable position of having credibility in data intensive healthcare research and also deep engagement with data custodians in the NHS and elsewhere. It can do serious research with its existing methods but we also know that future leading edge research will take advantage of data at larger scale and with greater heterogeneity. What use is AI in this? Drawing in part on conversations from our Quinquennial Review preparations, I will discuss opportunities and challenges for AI systems in supporting, enacting and translating research.
