Videos / BHF DSC Monthly Webinar: April 2023 Key updates from two rapid research projects (45:17)

The BHF Data Science Centre is a partnership between Health Data Research UK and the British Heart Foundation that works to deliver the data and data science needed to address some of the most important challenges in heart and circulatory disease research. The Centre works with a wide range of partners including patients, public, clinicians, researchers and NHS organisations to help them carry out research using health data into the causes, prevention and treatment of all diseases of the heart and circulation (such as heart attacks, stroke and vascular dementia). The BHF Data Science Centre holds a monthly webinar to provide updates about our work. For April's webinar we featured key updates from two rapid research projects which were announced earlier in 2023.
The research projects have been launched by HDR UK and are funded by NIHR with an aim to ease NHS winter pressures. Firstly we will here from Dr Honghan Wu, Associate Professor at Institute of Health Informatics, UCL. He is a fellow of The Alan Turing Institute. Honghan is joined by Jinge Wu – a female PhD student in health informatics at Institute of Health Informatics, UCL. Their talk is entitled 'Using machine learning and rare disease phenotype models to identify people at risk of COVID-19 related adverse outcome.’ Then we will hear from Professor Nazrul Islam, Associate Professor of Epidemiology and Medical Statistics at University of Southampton talking about a project he co-leads with Dr Hjira Dambha-Miller, entitled 'Using data science to better characterise multiple long term health conditions.
