ADR UK/HDR UK Area-based Deprivation Measures Showcase (1:27:05)

Overview

Researchers often want to measure differences in their studied outcome across groups. One way of doing this to categorise segments of the population based on the area-based measures, such as deprivation. However, there is more than one way of defining and measuring deprivation. This online showcase is for administrative and health data researchers who want to understand applications of area-based deprivation coding in practice.

The showcase will include expert talks on:

• challenges/caveats of using area-based measurements in data research projects
• how area-based measures determined by government and work towards UK-wide harmonisation
• examples of area-based measurement best practice

By the end of the session, participants will:

• Understand the challenges and caveats of using area-based measurements in data research projects
• Identify when area-based measurements are best placed
• Consider heterogeneity across area-based measurements in the UK and work towards harmonisationn
