Accessing Health Data
Access to health data relies on public trust, and to maintain that trust, frameworks and work environments have been designed to keep data secure. In order to have access to health data, researchers must have a thorough understanding of these frameworks and environments.
The objective of this course is to bring users an insight and understanding of the techniques of accessing health data, the protocols to use to ensure it is kept secure, and to demonstrate some examples of these approaches being practise successfully.
The first three videos in this course are developed in conjunction with the Medical Research Council (MRC) Regulatory Office. They explore the main concepts you need to understand when working with health data, and-explain where to get further information.
Also included is a webinar explaining and demonstrating for researchers, the Health Data Research Innovation Gateway (the ‘Gateway’).
The remaining videos focus much more on gaining a more detailed understanding of working in a Trusted Research Environment (TRE). These have been developed and are presented by researchers working directly in the field, namely Fatemeh Torabi and Utkarsh Agrawal.
Note that written transcripts are available in each learning module.
The general theme of this course is core for researchers in the health field, however, the content can be freely accessed by anyone wishing to learn more about accessing health data.
